AdBlue is used in diesel engines of EURO-4, EURO-5,EURO-6 standards, equipped with a selective catalytic converter (SCR), as an additive working fluid. The SCR system includes a metering unit, a catalyst and an AdBlue tank. The principle of operation of this system is to obtain absolutely harmless water vapor and nitrogen due to the chemical reaction of ammonia and nitrogen oxide contained in the exhaust gases. AdBlue is injected with the exhaust gas upstream of the selective catalytic converter. Ultimately, the chemical reaction of ammonia, formed at a high temperature of the catalyst from urea, with harmful nitrogen oxides, forms water and nitrogen. AdBlue not only protects the environment from the negative effects of exhaust gases, but also saves. SCR technology optimizes engine performance, which means that the amount of fuel that is consumed while driving is reduced. On average, fuel consumption with SCR is 5% less than without SCR.

Important: AdBlue should not be confused with regular urea. Urea, also known as carbamide, is a nitrogen fertilizer, an additive to feed for ruminants, a component of individual drugs, etc. The technologies for preparing these products vary greatly, and any home-grown technologies will inevitably turn into expensive repairs.
